Mike Gallagher, President Emeritus of Western Allied Corporation, spoke at the 2/26/2026 club meeting and shared practical career advice for students entering the HVAC industry. He discussed different business structures and emphasized the importance of company culture, encouraging students to visit potential employers in person and understand who they would report to before accepting a position.
He described hiring as a two way evaluation, where employers value preparation, curiosity, work ethic, and genuine interest as much as grades. Internships were highlighted as a key pathway into the industry.
Gallagher also stressed everyday habits that separate top performers: arriving early, staying organized, doing what you say you will do, responding to all communication, and striving to understand “why,” not just “what” or “how.” He emphasized that promotions often come from thinking like a manager and that long term success depends on mindset, consistency, and choosing the right company environment.
